FASTIV, UKRAINE - OCTOBER 20, 2011: Bing search box on computer screen close-up October 20, 2011 in Fastiv, Ukraine.

Currently Bing is back online in China, the famous Microsoft search engine was down or blocked in China. This we do not know and no one is asking why? Was it a technical outage or was it intentionally blocked by the government.

Bing is now available again in China. The issue took place early Wednesday on 23rd Jan 2019. People started to get concerned about the unavailability of service. It was thought that Bing was joining the gang of western applications that have been already blocked in the country. China has already blocked WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo & Google.

Microsoft President Opens a New Window.  Brad Smith told FOX Businesson Thursday that its Bing search engine opens a New Window.

“We are still working to find out,” Smith said during an exclusive interview with Maria Bartiromo at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “It is definitely the case as you just said that people in China cannot access Bing.”

The disappearance of the search engine from China came as a shock because Microsoft Bing has been following strict privacy laws in China, but other than that it seemed like a political tussle between the United States and China which lead to this affect.

This is not the first time that Bing services go down in a region. Microsoft president & Chief legal advisor Brad Smith gave a statement to Fox Business network stating “Periodically there are issues that arise, and sometimes those issues do lead to our service or some other services being blocked,” Mr. Brad Smith also stated “And it is an area where we understand we don’t have the same legal freedom that we do in other countries, but at the same time, we stick to our guns.”

The website that tracks online services of websites and outages of websites also confirmed that cn.bing.com was down.

Chinese users investigated after confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson that “It is confirmed that Bing is currently inaccessible in China” & “engaged to determine next steps.”

The search engine Bing holds a very small portion of the market share in China. It holds only 2 % of all the searches in China. According to Statcounter this outage was a big deal because this is one of the last major US services in the country.

China is very strict about its censorship laws and bans organization without any prior notice. The way Google was banned in 2010 which were avoiding Chinese censorship. According to sources Google is working on a censored version of its search engine to make a comeback in China after an 8 year ban. But banning Bing would be a bad thing for Google as well as it has been following all censorship laws of China so if the new Google censored version of its search engine is also banned after being introduced would make all efforts go to waste.

A telecommunication operator in China by the name of Unicom confirmed that Bing had been blocked in the country after a government order.

According to Financial times it was stated on Wednesday that two other sources also confirmed the news.

Such necessities have raised genuine worries for the clients and organizations working in China, where the Internet and online opportunity have as of now been vigorously controlled by the administration.
